the simplest way is to use a pot high value pot (10 – 100 K) gives dimmer min brightness but low resolution in the hig brightness area low value pot (100 ohm – 1 K) gives dimmer min brightness but low choice ability in the high brightness area low value pot gives quite bright min brightness (you cant get the led dimmer than that) but good choice in the high brightness area if you use a pwm driver (like 555) you can use the pot to alter its duty cycle.
