How Do You Build A Floating Shelf?
Floating shelves look like they’re just “floating” or hanging on the wall with no visible means of support–and provide lots of storage space as well as add a stylish and unique appearance to any room. You can install your own floating shelves in a couple of ways. One option is to buy a kit containing all of the components you’ll need from a home store–or you can build your floating shelf from scratch. Here’s how to do it from scratch. Determine where you want to place your floating shelves, how long they will be and how many you want to build. Use a stud finder to find wall studs behind the part of the wall on which you want to hang the shelves. Mark the location of the studs, then measure and mark specifically where the shelves will be placed. (For illustrative purposes let’s say you want just one shelf, 4 feet long and 8 inches deep.)
