How Do You Build A Crown Molding Shelf?
Crown molding and some lumber can be turned in to a beautiful wall-mounted shelf that can be used for a variety of purposes. The process outlined in this article can be used to create crown molding shelves of virtually any size, from small shelves to fit in tight spaces to larger shelves resembling a fireplace mantle. Cut the crown molding into three pieces. The longest piece will be the front of the shelf. The two shorter pieces should be of equal length and will be the sides of the shelf. Miter the ends of the crown molding that will be joined to form the front corners of the shelf. They should be cut at a 45-degree angle. Predrill pilot holes for the screws that will hold the three pieces of molding together. Use a small drill bit but remove enough wood to prevent splitting when the pieces are screwed together. Spread a thin layer of wood glue on both sides of the corner joints. Press and screw the front corner joints together. Measure the top of the crown molding for the shelf top.
