How Do You Buff Refinished Hardwood Floors?
Buffing finished hardwood floors is a quick and easy way to remove minor scratches while preparing the floor for a fresh coat of floor finish. Floors that are heavily worn and damaged will need a complete sanding and re-finishing; however, if maintained by buffing out scratches and applying a coat of floor finish is performed periodically, finished hardwood floors will stay looking like new for years. Remove furniture from the room. Sweep the floor to remove all dust, dirt and debris before attempting to buff. Choose the appropriate grit sanding disc for the project. A 60-, 80- or 100-grit disc is best for the first round of sanding. Remember, the lower the number, the more aggressive the sanding power of the disc. Place a sanding screen on the floor, and place either a red or white buffing pad on top of the screen. Place the floor buffing machine with driving block attached on top of the buffing pad.
