How do you break up Pitbulls fighting without getting hurt yourself?
Discipline!!! All of your dogs should be able to be in your home without fighting! Put them in submissive positions and make them stay that way beside each other for a couple a minutes a few times a day. They will get the message. Separating them just makes them territorial and dominant. We can have 6 dogs in our home on any given day ( when we dog sit)and would never allow fighting. We also own a Pit Bull and a Yorkie that just had 3 puppies. The puppies were not planned. The breeder sold her to us pregnant and we didn’t find out until about 3 weeks after we had her.
are they 3 males or 3 females? are they Neutered or Spayed ? Females have the potential to engage in fights, and to be as tenacious as males. When females fight with female or male dogs, often it’s to gain a possession. Dogs perceive neutered dogs as less of a threat. With male dogs, neutering reduces the chances dogs will bite and neutering is linked with a reduction in several kinds of aggression Dunbar suggests teaching the command, “GENTLY,” which can be useful in diverting dogs from a fight. “SIT” and “OFF” are also important commands. It is important to be able to redirect your dog’s attention to you — and thus away from another dog who may be engaging in challenging eye contact and aggressive or otherwise undesirable behavior Feed dogs in separate areas, rooms or in their own crates Carry a small, automatic umbrella. You can pop this open between your dog and an incoming one of you fear a problem. It provides a surprise and a hiding place. Some dog handlers carry water pistols
Honestly, it’s not easy to break up a dog fight in action, especially if it’s inside the house. The risk to you is very high. Even if the dog does not intend to bite you, it may think the other dog is attacking him and bite you by mistake. I know they are your babies, but I’d seriously think about rehoming one of the fighters to a home with no other dogs. That much dog aggression is very stressful for all involved and pretty much impossible to resolve with training – it can get better, but sometimes fights can and will still happen and like you said, someone’s going to get seriously hurt or killed.
