How Do You Boot To An External Hard Drive?
The ability to boot to devices other than the internal hard drive and CD-Rom has not always been a standard feature in computers, due to the way the BIOs system was previously configured. Now nearly all editions of BIOs on almost all computers support the ability to boot to an external hard drive. If you’re looking to do this because you want to install an operating system or run a diagnostic tool, you’ll find that the process is quite simple. Plug in your external hard drive. You should have your operating system or other bootable program already fully installed on the external hard drive. If you haven’t, consult your manual for doing that. Click “Start > Shutdown > Restart.” Press the “F2” or “F1” key at the first screen that appears when you reboot the computer. If neither of these two keys work, consult your computer’s manual for what key is needed to boot into BIOs. Press the “Right Arrow” key until you highlight “Boot.” Press the “Down Arrow” key until you reach “External USB.” P
