Puppy Linux is a lightweight operating system that can boot from just about anything that can be plugged or inserted into a computer. Not only can it be installed to the hard drive, but it can run from a live CD or a USB flash drive without difficulty. Your preferences and added programs can also be saved anywhere, including on a thumb drive or hard disk. The small system, which takes up about 100 megabytes in the initial download, will load into memory to make it a fast Linux distribution. Plug your thumb drive into a USB port, but do not mount it. Select “Setup/Puppy Universal Installer” to install Puppy on the USB drive. Select “USB Flash Drive,” then choose the correct partition for the installation. Click “Install,” then locate your kernel (vmlinuz) and other needed files for installation. They will be on the CD. Install Puppy Linux on the USB drive. Plug your USB drive into the computer. Boot up your computer. If this is your first boot, you will be asked to select your keyboard
