An otologist is a doctor whose subspecialty is providing medical and surgical care for patients that have ear, nose or throat diseases or conditions in other related body parts. These doctors treat many kinds of head and neck related problems. Become an otologist by first becoming a board-certified otolaryngologist. This is a specialty of medicine that requires training in general surgery and training in conditions of the ear, nose and throat. An otologist works as part of a team of doctors including neurosurgeons. They treat not only diseases of the ear, nose and throat, but also manage diseases relating to cranial nerves. Excel in college and medical school. Because of the many aspects of this field, if you want to become an otologist, you must have a solid background in anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics and neurology.
