The field of Environmental Geology is growing every day with the increased awareness of our environment by our citizens. With a degree in geology, you are in a great position to work in many fields that can help our environment such as environmental consulting, compliance, regulatory and research. The first step to becoming an environmental geologist is to graduate from high school. If you decide to go into geology as a teenager, take as many science and math courses as you can in high school. When you are deciding on a college, review the geology department at each university. Some departments favor a traditional geology degree while some are turning to an environmental degree. A good question to ask the geology professors in your decision process is “What types of jobs do your recent graduates hold?” If many of their graduates are working in environmental geology then that school may be a good choice for you.
