How Do You Become An Assistant Athletic Trainer?
Deemed an allied health care profession by the American Medical Association, athletic trainers are certified medical professionals specialized in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries incurred from physical activity. While all athletic trainers work under the supervision of a licensed physician and work in cooperation with other health care providers, assistant athletic trainers are also supervised by head coaches and trainers, or athletic directors. Many assistant athletic trainers will advance to head athletic trainer, athletic director or management positions after extensive work experience and attainment of a master’s degree or higher. Various work settings include clinics and hospitals, school districts, colleges and universities, professional sports teams and fitness or athletic facilities.
