Becoming a youth pastor takes a level of commitment not found in other types of ministry. The youth pastor is someone who loves kids, has a passion for ministry and doesn’t mind being available no matter what his or her teens are facing. Being a teenager in today’s society is challenging. Becoming a youth pastor to teens starts with a good education. Step 1 Research undergraduate programs with a focus on youth ministry. Step 2 Apply to the college of your choice and begin completing your undergraduate requirements. Step 3 Take advantage of internships during the summer. Having an opportunity to work with an experienced youth pastor can be a great learning tool. Step 4 Volunteer to work with an area youth group at a church while still an undergraduate. This will give you insight into the regular workings of a youth program during the year.
