How Do You Become A Successful Pitcher?
Becoming a successful pitcher is not about throwing 95 and having a wicked curve, though these help. You need to develop more important skills. • Learn to throw strikes. Once you have done this, you can work on your pitch repertoire and velocity. • Develop a consistent throwing motion; build your muscle memory so that you do the same thing every time you throw the ball. • Self diagnose, or have someone help show you what causes you to lose command or throw wild pitches. This can be things like dropping your elbow, or “stepping in to the bucket”. • As you build command of your fastball, gradually increase the velocity and work on other pitches. The first one to learn is a change up, then maybe a breaking pitch or other fastball variations. Take any opportunities to throw or to get help from someone else, especially those with pitching experience. It is much easier for someone else to diagnose a problem in your throwing motion.
