A career as an FBI Special Agent is rewarding, but there are stringent qualifications you must meet. If you are planning to pursue a career in this field, you need to dedicate your education to one of the specialities that the FBI looks for when hiring agents. The requirements for these positions are mandatory and there are no exceptions. Meet the age and citizenship requirements. You must be at least 23 years old, but not more than 37 when you are appointed as a Special Agent. You must be a citizen of the United States. Earn a four-year college degree from a college or university that has accreditation deemed valid by the U.S. Secretary of Education. Qualify for one of the five Special Agent entry programs. These programs are accounting, computer science, language, law and diversified. Quality for the accounting entry program by having earned Certified Public Accountant status or having a bachelor’s degree in accounting and three years of accounting work.
