How Do You Become A Solicitor In England?
This fact sheet illustrates the most usual path taken by an English student entering the legal profession as a solicitor. It covers the period of time from leaving school to being admitted to the roll of solicitors. Step 1 After leaving school, preferably with good grades at GCSE and A Level, apply to read a degree in law at a recognized institution. This is usually a 3 year course and covers the topic of law academically. Step 2 Before graduation, apply to recognized institutions for a place on a Legal Practice Course. This, as the name suggests, is a more practical course, introducing students to the type of work carried out by solicitors. Step 3 After the Legal Practice Course, the next step is to get a job as a trainee solicitor with a firm of solicitors. Most firms interview 2 years in advance and so potential candidates need to apply well in advance. Trainee roles last 2 years and are split into several different seats, giving the trainee experience working in different departmen
