How Do You Become A School Counselor In New Jersey?
School counselors in New Jersey must obtain a standard certificate issued by the state. Before applying for this certificate, candidates need to fulfill a series of requirements for eligibility. Two pathways exist: Option 1 requires a master’s degree and pertains to candidates who earn degrees out of state, complete programs approved by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) or work as counselors in a state other than New Jersey. The second option calls for candidates to complete a master’s degree from a regionally accredited school without any of the previous credentials.
