Transitioning isn’t easy — follow these helpful steps to help ease some stress. First, you want to pick a feminine name. You can get a baby name book to help you – the newer books have the most unique names in them, and even if you don’t pick one from the book it will help you brainstorm. Your name is very important. You don’t want it to be too ‘over the top’ if you want to be a passable woman. Another option is using a name similar to your own, to ease confusion among friends/family. (If your name is Steven, Stephanie is an easy option.) Tell everyone. Obviously, you will tell your immediate family in person if possible. If that isn’t an option (either because they are too far away or because they are not accepting of your lifestyle), you can send cards or an email. Cards are obviously a little more personal, but sending a mass email would work, too. You can tell your friends and family you now are to be called “Stephanie” — they will usually get the picture unless this was a TOTAL
