How Do You Become A Medical Speech-Language Pathologist?
When speech problems arise in children, teens or adults, speech-language pathologists are called to help. These therapists are able to diagnose and treat speech problems that occur as a result of injury, illness or mental problems. They can also help those who just want to improve their pronunciation or who want to lose a regional or foreign accent. Have a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited university study program because 47 states will not grant licenses to practice in the field without it. Check to see that the program you enter is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. During your work for a master’s degree, you will study anatomy, physiology, the nature of speech disorders, acoustics and current methodologies of treatment for speech disorders.
