Medical credentialing specialists typically work in medical offices, insurance groups, or other industries in health care. Credentialing specialists may be responsible for keeping a facility’s accreditation up-to-date, assist with audits that may be performed in the facility, prepare, and maintain summaries and reports on activities within the facility such as accreditation, facility privileges, and memberships. When personnel in the hospital request certain privileges, it is the duty of the credentialing specialist to check the federal and state guidelines to ensure the request can be approved. Many employers require at least a two-year degree to become a credentialing specialist. Find schools that specialize in degrees in quality assurance or communications.
