How Do You Become A Home Inspector For HUD?
If you want to become a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) inspector, you will need to pass strict requirements. Being an federal housing inspector means that you will need experience in housing inspection, have computer skills and knowledge of carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC. You will physically inspect the exterior, interior and building systems of all HUD-certified homes and write up reports. You will note any needed repairs, the condition of all parts of the house and the useful life of major appliances and systems. Inspect 250 properties or more on your own before you apply for the HUD inspection program. You must have conducted these inspections without any assistance and have written reports. An entire apartment building counts as one property (not broken down into units). Download and fill out the Inspector Candidate Assessment Questionnaire (see Resources).
