The career path to becoming a forensic profiler is neither straight nor easy. Despite the forensic profiler’s portrayal in popular media, there is no state or federal law enforcement agency with a job description that has “profiler” in the title. If you are determined to work in a career with profiling as part of your job tasks, your best approach is to pursue a traditional degree in psychology, with an emphasis in criminal behavior. From there, you should pursue a career path that involves working for a law enforcement agency. Attend an accredited college or university that has a four-year degree in psychology, with classes in criminal behavior and forensic science.
