Being a fine jewelry appraiser can be a lucrative and rewarding career, for those willing to put in the intensive effort required to attain professional certification. If you want to become a fine jewelry appraiser, there will be four broad steps to your training: certification, experience in the industry, personal integrity and knowledge of appraisal law. Step 1 Enroll in a course of study that will lead to Graduate Gemologist (GG) or Fellow of the Gemological Association (FGA) certification. The Gemological Institute of America awards the GG designation, and the Gemological Association of Great Britain awards the FGA.
