How Do You Become A Credit Card Merchant?
• Make sure your business credit is good before applying for a merchant account. • Compare at least 3 different merchant account providers. All providers are not the same, fees are crucial to your bottom line. Also review the providers customer support service and if they offer technical support. Down the road if you run into a problem, you will want a provider that will help you without charging a fee. • Once you decide on a merchant provider, if there is an upfront cost ask if you can spread the cost over 12 months. Choose a terminal that you feel comfortable with and can possibly train an employee to use. • Ensure there is a separate phone line dedicated solely to your terminal in your business. You will not want a phone call, fax or internet service to block a credit transaction. A representative from your merchant provider will usually come out and help you setup your terminal. This is a good time to ask questions.
