How Do You Become A Civil War Reenactor?
American Civil War reenacting is a diverse hobby enjoyed by many different kinds of people, all with a love of history. Men, women and children can portray soldiers or civilians from the Civil War period, and enjoy a weekend of camping, shooting black powder weapons, talking to visitors about history, and remembering those North and South who sacrificed for their country. Some events try to recreate the past as closely as possible except for modern safety and practical concerns, while others are more about socializing, with relaxed historical standards. Most events last from Friday evening to Sunday, though a few are longer. Some are open to the public while some are non-spectator events. Some include scripted battles while others are open-ended tacticals. Others are focused around marches or even specific situations such as mustering in, occupying a town or camping in winter quarters, and might not have a battle at all.
