According to the North Carolina State School Board, children’s counselors are mostly employed through schools, recreational centers, and government organizations. In schools, they are needed to promote student’s academic and social development. Children’s counselors provide preventive services that respond to every child’s particular needs based on his or her academic and social background. The purpose of a children’s counselor is to help children deal with daily emotional stress. Before pursuing a career in children’s counseling, an individual needs to obtain the appropriate education and certification before seeking employment. Obtain a master’s degree or higher from an accredited university, educational institute or college. Most child counselors need a master’s or doctorate in child psychology, child development, human behavior, or sociology to be considered fully qualified.
