A Certified Medical Transcriber translates patients’ visits with their health care professionals. A CMT is responsible for interpreting and transcribing oral dictation from a voice recorder to a computer, either online or in an office setting. Completing a medical transcription training course doesn’t automatically make you a CMT. You must first complete 2 years of work experience following your initial training. Then, to receive the Certified Medical Transcriptionist award given by the AAMT, medical transcribers must take and pass the written and practical CMT certification examinations.
