How Do You Become A Certified Medical Coder?
Certified medical coders are technicians that enter codes into database systems that describe medical conditions, procedures and test results. They generally work for hospitals, doctors’ offices or insurance companies. But how does one become a certified medical coder? Get training. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most certified medical coders have training from community or junior colleges in their local areas, which is the minimum requirement. However, some have more advanced degrees from four-year universities. Some schools to consider are Everest College and Virginia College, both of which have online degree programs.
