How Do You Become A Buddhist Monk?
Buddhist monks have been around for well over 2,000 years, as have Buddha’s teachings and practices. There are different schools of monks but all have the same basic tenets. It’s not as difficult to find a teacher or monastery as it was not so many years ago, but the training is rigorous and exacting. Step 1 Consider the benefits and disadvantages of the monastic life before making a commitment to the Buddhist lifestyle. You must comprehend the teachings thoroughly before making this decision, because of the lifelong commitment of a Buddhist monk. Of course, there are those who rescind their vows after ordination but this is strongly discouraged. Step 2 Find a Buddhist Center and prepare to receive training from a Buddhist teacher. It is important to spend years in living according to the Buddhist practices. If you feel that this is what you are called to do, you must enter into a three-fold refuge of the Buddha, the Buddhist teachings and a community of enlightened believers (Sangha).
