How do you become a baseball card dealer and be able to buy in bulk at wholesale prices?

There aren’t many people opening card shops anymore. More of them have been closing than opening since the early 90’s. It really isn’t a good business to be in unless you have an established one up and running. Assuming you have the money to pay in advance, you could buy from the manufacturers just by contacting them. But you have to buy a lot, and you can’t just pick and choose the hottest product. You have to take it all. More common these days is the weekend warrior who deals mostly in vintage cards. There’s no real advantage for these dealers. The guy who can root out quality stuff and not overpay can make money at it. The advantage is that old cards (pre-1980) tend to hold their value better than new ones. If you buy stuff new straight from the manufacturer, you had better have a plan to sell it quickly.
