How Do You Beat Stress With Laughter Yoga?
The therapeutic benefits of laughter in relieving stress and promoting good health are well known. In 1995, Dr. Madan Kataria, a family physician from Mumbai, India, created laughter yoga as an easy way for people to achieve in these benefits. Laughter yoga is a physical practice that combines gentle yoga breathing and stretching with tension-releasing laughter exercises to increase oxygenation, strengthen the immune system and boost “happy” chemistry. Since it is based on physical rather than mental stimulation of laughter, it doesn’t require you to start out with a happy attitude or even a sense of humor. Find “laughter clubs,” as the schools of laughter yoga are called, near you. Go to the official website of the Dr. Kataria School of Laughter Yoga or try Google for locations around the world. There are about 5 thousand clubs in 53 countries. If none of them are near you, you can buy laughter yoga videos or find instructions for many laughter exercises online. See the Resources sect
