The djembe drum is an African drum that is typically used to play in groups of other drummers. To really fit in with a group, you must be prepared to play the same basic rhythms over and over. Other drummers will not want to play with you if you are not willing to play rhythm and take turns doing solos. Follow the leader who will set up the basic rhythm patterns for the drumming session. He will start the drumming and everyone should jump in when they can follow his lead. Slap the center of the djembe with your full hand flat. If you start with your right, then follow with your left.
