As hurricane season quickly approaches (June 1-November 30), being prepared is one of the best and safest things you can do. Preparing now will help to keep you and your family safe. Step 1 Keep your car’s gas tank full. Others will be doing the same, so reserves may be low. Being prepared beforehand will be your best bet. Step 2 Keep emergency cash as some ATM’s may not be working. Keeping cash with you, for those places that only accept cash, for tolls, etc, will be helpful in times of evacuation. Step 3 Know and travel evacuation routes often, in a hurricane people are often in a state of panic and roads are jammed. Step 4 Check batteries and flashlights to ensure they are working. Step 5 Some shelters do not accept pets. Find out if the one you would be evacuated to does. If it doesn’t, there are many pet friendly motels and hotels that do accept pets.
