How Do You Be A Rock Singer?
• Note: this is written towards hardrock singers or hardrock singer wannabes. For Classic Rock n’ Roll, heavy metal, or other rock genres, the steps may be different • You must abandon all dignity. At first, this may sound frightening and unheard of, but being temporarily undignified can be fun, and it is absolutely neccesary. • Learn the music. The notes and rythms must be solid before you can work on stylization. • Feel the music. You have to become part of the music, let the music become part of you. You have to come outside of yourself. Forget the worries of yesterday. Forget the worries of tommorow. Singing in a rockband should be an almost surreal experience. • It is mandatory that the music be in the right key for the singer. It might require a capo for the guitar(s). Remember that, if the singer needs it lower, a capo can be used and then the singer can sing it down an octave.
