How Do You Be A Pop Culture Parent?
Parenting is no easy task, especially when your young children are being bombarded with the “gotta-have-it” pop culture consumer products like Webkinz. Then again, if you have a teen living in your house, then you are well-aware of the Hip-Hop culture. There is nothing inherently wrong with these examples, but how is a parent supposed to be effective when their children are more interested in the next symbol of “cool”? Keep in mind the notion of “cool” is in itself a product of pop culture. With the youth of today, consumerism mixed with pop culture “cool” is what fuels the mindset of being a kid within a subset of other groups of children. Pop Culture is defined as anything pertaining to the spread of particular behaviors and the beliefs that encompass them, the current common trends in the arts, thought and end results of work by a body of the population.
