Young children may often proclaim their independence, but they’re still not ready to take unsupervised baths. Parents need to monitor their child’s bathtime for many years. Providing toys and company can make bathtime fun and enjoyable. Fill a bathtub with several inches of lukewarm water. Help your child undress if she needs assistance. Place your child in the bathtub. Add water-safe toys to the tub. These should be items your child enjoys playing with. This can include rubber ducks, boats, balls and other toys. Apply soap to a washcloth and create a lather. Start at your child’s face and rub your child with the washcloth, paying special attention to any dirty areas like knees and elbows. Make sure your child is soapy all over. Rinse your child with water until all traces of soap have been rinsed from his body. Let your child wash himself if he wants to, but help him afterwards so that he gets clean. Shampoo the hair last. Start by wetting your child’s hair completely with fresh water
