How Do You Bake French Toast With French Bread?
I like this French Toast recipe because the presentation is impressive. Instead of big slices of regular bread laying flat in the pan the French Bread slices sit up at attention. The dish is prepared the night before so the bread soaks up and evenly distributes the eggs and milk. In the morning the dish goes in the oven, the slices puff up and turn golden brown. I’ve had guests apologize because they are not very hungry in the morning but they eventually can’t resist the smell and taste. Butter the 9″ X 13″ pan generously. Cut French bread in 1 inch slices and arrange the slices in the pan so they overlap slightly. The first row lays down flat and the rest are propped up and leaning back slightly. Combine the eggs, milk cream, (or half & half) vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg together. Blend well so the mix is all one color. Carefully pour the mix over the bread in the pan. You don’t have to coat every slice. Just gently pour the mix across the pan. Cover the pan with foil or plastic wrap
