How Do You Bait Raccoon Traps Using PVC Pipe?
Raccoon trappers use several ploys to lure the animals to their trap sites. Raccoons are curious so when they see something new in their territory, they’ll investigate. When they smell something good, they’ll come running. A good bait at the trap site positioned so the raccoon will have to step on the trap’s firing mechanism to get at the food will seal the raccoon’s fate. Many trappers use a short section of PVC pipe to accomplish all of the above. Gather the pipes. Ask a local plumber to save any foot-long or longer left-over scraps of 1 ½ and 2 inch PVC pipe from his plumbing jobs. (Most plumbers discard any unused pipes less than 3 or 4 feet in length.) Cut the pipe into 12-inch long sections with a hacksaw if the scraps are longer than a foot long or if you are purchasing new pipe to use.
