Don’t know how to backwash your sand filter or even if you need to? Backwashing is something that needs to be done at least every 2 weeks to keep your pool sparkling. Follow these simple instructions. Backwashing is the process that cleans the scum and debris that your filter traps during it’s filter cycle. It is necessary to keep your sand clean to allow for proper water flow and keep your swimming pool clear. The flow of water is reversed from regular circulation to clean the sand. Turn off your swimming pool pump. Whether above ground or in-ground. Either turn the breaker off, turn the switch to the off position if you have one, or unplug the pump if it’s wired with 110V power and an above ground swimming pool. Move the handle either on top or on the side of your filter to the BACKWASH setting. To move the handle, push down and rotate the handle slowly clockwise to the BACKWASH position.
