How Do You Back A Prequilted Cross Stitch Baby Quilt?
There are many pre-finished items available for cross-stitch customization, one of the most popular being baby quilts. Often featuring stamped designs, these quilts make lovely gifts for any baby. But if you are concerned about your stitching coming undone with laundering, add a back to the item once you are finished to protect the backside of the stitches. Finish all cross-stitching. Once you apply the backing you will not be able to add more stitching. Cut your backing fabric to size. You want it to be large enough to entirely cover the back with about a 1/2 inch extra around all edges. Pin down the fabric with its back against the back of the quilt, folding the edges under. Sew the edges down, removing the pins as you work. As most quilts will have pre-finished edges, try to run your stitches over those existing stitches.
