How Do You Avoid Vacuum Extraction During Delivery?
Vacuum extraction isn’t necessary in most vaginal deliveries. It’s an unpleasant experience, both for the mother and the baby, so avoiding it is in the best interest of all parties. Avoiding vacuum extraction is largely a matter of arriving at the delivery prepared for all contingencies and with an accurate knowledge of the risks of other procedures. Step 1 Have a natural childbirth instead of using an epidural, which increases the chances of needing vacuum extraction and other forms of delivery assistance. Step 2 Bring a supportive person with you into delivery. Use a support person to keep you calm during delivery to increase the chance of needing no medical assistance. Use either the Bradley Method or Lamaze with your partner to help control pain. Hire a labor assistant, or doula, if needed. Step 3 Use a productive labor position during labor and delivery. Push from a squatting or sitting position in order to make the pushing stage go faster and to lessen the need for vacuum extract
