How Do You Avoid Generalizations In Writing By Incorporating Details?
• Refer to your main idea (or thesis) and remember what point you’re trying to make. How will you explain that in detail? • Plan on 2-3 specific reasons, examples, causes, comparisons, etc. to tell the reader what you really mean. • Plan on giving some specific description, instruction, or example to help your reader. • Avoid using ambiguous sentences (they could mean several things). A paper with many vague or only main idea sentences will leave the reader lost and without a clear understanding of your topic. Make the reader visualize what you are discussing and hold their attention. Do this by using clear words (not “great”, “cool”, “beautiful”) that actually show something.
