How Do You Avoid A Crowd Surfer?
• Try to identify areas on the dance floor where crowd surfing is likely. Look for dense groups of people, specifically dense groups of people trying to lift someone up. These hotspots should be avoided. • Recognize that crowd surfers move, generally from their starting points towards the center of the dance floor, and then work their way toward a less dense area to get down. If you can predict their path or where they might want to head you can get out of the way early. • Get out of the way. If a crowd surfer is approaching your direction and you have enough time to move, move away from their path, or far enough away so there is a large gap, forcing that person to get down. • If you’re faced with a crowd surfer directly above you, don’t look up without placing your hands up first. You don’t know what body parts might be on the way down to impale you. You don’t have to push up to hold them up, just prevent them from kicking your face. • By not pushing up, you’re also showing the surfer
