How Do You Attach A Stair Rail To A Newel Post?
A newel post is the central or main post that is located at the bottom of a staircase located on the inside or the outside of a home. If you are installing a new handrail or replacing an existing handrail on a staircase you will need to attach or secure the rail correctly to the newel post. You can attach a stair rail to a newel post by first taking the proper measurements to determine where the railing needs to be located. Measure the length of the staircase with a tape measure to determine how long of a railing you will need to use. You can find the length of the staircase by measuring from the top of floor or decking to the front edge of the bottom stair. Place the mounting bracket on the newel post where it will be mounted for the railing and mark its location with a pencil. Mark the location of the screw holes that are needed for the screws with the pencil. Drill the holes for the screws or bracket in the newel post using a power drill. Drill into the post the length of the screw
