If your shingled roof is suffering from runoff woes, the simple installation of a drip edge can make all the difference. A drip edge is just a modified L-shaped piece of flashing that can be installed along the eaves and rakes of a roof to direct runoff water into the gutters. In cold weather, drip edges are highly effective in preventing ice-damming, which occurs when snow melts over heated sections of a building and then refreezes in colder areas. Gently lifting the first row of shingles closest to the eaves as you go along. Slide the flat side of the drip edge underneath. Pull the drip edge out a bit from underneath the first row of shingles if the drip edge doesn’t extend slightly over the eaves. Overlap each subsequent section of drip edge by an inch or more.
