How Do You Assemble Quilt Top, Batting, & Lining Into A Frame To Be Quilted?
Putting quilt top, batting and lining together correctly before quilting is essential to turn out a beautiful finished heirloom. This is an art often passed down from mother to daughter. This is how my 92-yr-old farm-wife mother taught me to do it many years ago. First, make sure your frame (similar to the one pictured) has fabric stapled to each side. If it does not, purchase cheap, sturdy fabric and use a staple gun to fasten a line of fabric about 6 inches wide to the rail that runs from one side of the quilt frame horse to the other. Unfold your quilt lining and fasten it onto the fabric on each side of the frame by putting in a safety pin about every 5-6 inches. Roll the lining onto the back rail until slack has been removed. Next, unfold the quilt batting and layer it on top of the lining, then pin it on the side of the frame on which you’ll be working, fastening the two together with a large safety pin spaced apart about every 5-6 inches.
