How Do You Assemble A Self-Watering Hanging Planter?
Outlined below is a procedure for making a self-watering hanging planter. Cut one of the bottles into two portions. The bottom portion of this bottle will be used as a water reservior for the planter. The upper portion of this bottle will not be used in this experiment. Open three windows on the side of the other bottle. The presence of these windows will allow soil to be added more easily and also provide an convenient way to water the plant. Unscrew the lid and stuff the mouth of the bottle from step 2 with cotton strings. The cotton strings will be used as the wick material for the planter. Use a wire cutter to cut a small opening on the side the lid. This small opening should be just large enough to accommodate the wick material. Screw the lid on tightly. Make sure the wick is fixed in position. Use a thumbtack to punch a few holes as close to the mouth of the bottle from step 2 as possible.
