How Do You Arrange Military Funeral Honors?
Every honorably discharged veteran is entitled to military funeral honors. The military honors detail includes, at minimum, two uniformed, active duty members of the military, who will fold and present the flag, and play Taps. One of them must be from your loved one’s branch of the service. Arranging this honor is simple, but the details are important. Like any important event in life, this ritual is best planned in advance. Know your loved one’s wishes. Do they want military honors? Who would they like to receive the flag? Protocol states that the spouse of the deceased receive it, and failing that, the oldest male child. However, this is really up to the family. Find this out in advance.
