How Do You Apply Wood Appliques?
Wood appliques are intricately carved wooden designs that can be applied to a variety of surfaces to give them a more ornate appearance. You can use wood appliques to dress up kitchen cabinets, chests or even your fireplace mantle. These pieces allow you to enjoy furniture with lavish designs without the added expense. You can purchase appliques precarved in almost any size at most hardware stores or collaborate with a local woodworking shop to design your own. Measure the piece of furniture on which you plan to place the wood applique to find the center. Remember to measure the piece both vertically and horizontally. Mark the center of the piece with a pencil. Apply a thin line of wood glue around the edges of the applique. Press the wood applique into place and hold it for two to three minutes to give the wood glue time to dry. Stain or paint the surface on which you placed the applique to make it appear as if it were naturally carved into the furniture.
