The pressure of what is carried in the pipe, water for instance, will eventually work its way through the threads to the outside. Once a path is established, you will have a steady leak. You can apply pipe thread sealant easily and create a seal on the threads that will be leak proof. Step 1 Peel a small amount of Teflon tape from the roll (but do not cut it off the roll yet). Teflon tape is notorious for folding in on itself and becoming unusable so keep the free edge stuck on your thumb to hold the tape flat and wide. Step 2 Press the free edge of the Teflon tape to the bottom of the pipe threads. Begin to wrap the tape over the threads, pulling it tight as you go and overlapping the thread at least an 1/8 of an inch with each wrap.
