How Do You Apply Lacquer Paint Stripes?
Interior designers love this painting trick because it creates a look of satin wallpaper without all the expense and the hassle of removing the paper later on. This technique works equally well with dark and light colors, but the dark colors are the most dramatic. You can also apply the lacquer stripes horizontally or vertically, but the horizontal stripes are more challenging. Lacquer is different from shellac or polyurethane and is generally clear, shiny and dries quickly. Prepare your room by covering items that will be left in the room. Cover your floors with drop cloths and remove wall plates, art work and accessories. Wash the walls with a grease cutting detergent. Clean cobwebs off the ceiling areas, and wash dust off the baseboards. Mask off baseboards with painter’s tape. Cut in the edges of your ceiling and corners one wall at a time with an angled brush.
