How Do You Answer Rude Questions About Adoption?
Some people are just nosy and butt into your personal business without being asked. Others are well-intentioned but may be clumsy when trying to show their interest. Then there are those who are just plain rude when it comes to asking you questions about an adoption. Try a few of these tips next time you run into one of those awkward situations. Reply to rude and uncalled for questions by telling the nosy so-and-so that the story is a wonderful one, but it belongs to your child, who may or may not wish to share it when he is old enough. Use humor if you’re so inclined and feeling witty at the time. Offer a totally way-out response if asked if your child is adopted: “I was just walking down the street and found him laying in a basket on the side of the road” or “I won her in a poker game.” Ignore the rude comment as if you didn’t even hear it.
